      EVENT DETAILS
      World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is hosted by the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) and serves as a call-to-action for individuals, organizations, and communities to raise awareness about abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older people in Arizona. The one-day event is an important opportunity for those serving older adults; service providers, non-profit and for-profit organizations to network, share information and resources. Join us for a full day of keynote presentations, panel discussions, networking opportunities, breakout sessions, and access to local and statewide exhibitors.  Conference keynote presenters include Kathy Greenlee, JD, President & CEO Greenlee Global LLC and Bob Blancato, Matz, Blancato and Associates.   Kathy Greenlee served for seven years (2009-2016) as the Assistant Secretary for Aging at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C. During her tenure, Kathy provided national leadership on the realities and prevalence of elder abuse. Her work included the development of a home for Adult Protective Service programs at the Administration on Aging.   Since leaving Washington D.C., she has continued her work on elder abuse prevention and response at the national and regional levels. Greenlee was named to the inaugural list of “Influencers in Aging” in 2015 as one of the 50 thought leaders recognized for their work in changing how we age and think about aging. She has received numerous awards for her passionate work on the prevention of elder abuse.  For more information about Kathy Greenlee, click here.  Bob Blancato, National Coordinator of the bi partisan Elder Justice Coalition will deliver a keynote presentation outlining the state of elder justice in Washington D.C. and provide up to date statistics on elder abuse. It will focus on actions taken by the Trump Administration as well as Congress, what progress has been made and what more needs to be done.
