      Volunteer Orientation

Each month, volunteer orientation is offered for volunteers or prospective volunteers interested in being impact volunteers. Impact volunteers have a regular presence at the organization and may be placed in a program area that provides direct service to clients (e.g. meal service, the Read to Me program, Child Development Center etc.). Impact volunteers go the extra mile, and sustain a friendly presence to the families, women and youth served by UMOM.  Volunteer orientation helps individuals know more about UMOM, learn where they can make an impact through their volunteer service, and know what guidelines and expectations they will need to follow. Volunteer orientation is required for those interested in becoming impact volunteers. Additional requirements include a volunteer application, background check, and Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card. Thank you for wanting to be an impact volunteer at UMOM New Day Centers! FAQs What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? There is parking onsite. You may park in the main parking lot in front of the building, or in the overflow parking that is at the western part of campus.   What do I need to do once I arrive?  Go to the front window and let the Resident Assistant staff know you are present for volunteer orientation. When in the lobby, sign in on using the iPad adjacent to the front desk or using a mobile device. You will select from the drop down menu 'Volunteer Orientation' as your volunteer activity option, and '1.5' for your hours. If you arrive prior to the start time, you will be greeted and escorted upstairs. If you arrive after orientation begins, please make your way up to the second floor to the board room, which is an immediate right from the stairway. Is there a minimum or maximum number of participants for orientation? Yes. Orientation can be cancelled in the event that there are fewer than five attendees registered. There is a maximum of 15 participants for the event. Any additional persons interested should register for the next session. Can I register for someone else that's interested in attending? Each attendee should register on their own. This helps the organizer be able to reach all attendees directly. If I've been fingerprinted before, does that count? Only if you have received an Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.   If I've had a background check performed before, will that count? No, UMOM will perform background checks on prospective impact volunteers.  How do I go about getting paperwork? Orientation attendees will receive a volunteer application at the event. When the application has been completed and turned in to volunteer services, they will receive additional documentation needed for the volunteer onboarding process. How can I contact the organizer with any questions? Please email Jasmine Young, Volunteer Coordinator, at regarding additional questions concerning volunteer orientation.
