Arizona Hunt Unit 6a Scouting Trip for Deer/Elk Hunters

Arizona Hunt Unit 6a Scouting Trip for Deer/Elk Hunters You're invited to attend a free Arizona Hunting Club campout and scouting expedition for Arizona Hunt Unit 6a for both deer and elk. We will be camping due north of Stoneman Lake at the intersection of Forest Service Road 9473L and Forest Service Road 127 and Forest Service Road 127B, which is just northeast of Lee Butte. The GPS coordinates are N34.838676° W111.526711°. You need to be have your annual dues paid to attend this trip. This section of 6a is loaded with deer and elk. On this trip will we be scouting lots of stock tanks, game trails, pastures and saddles for sign. We will assign 5-10 tanks per person for you to scout. Each hunter will be given a hunting journal form to fill out. You will be asked to take digital photos of the stock tanks as well as any other signs you discover and take written notes about the areas you scout. We will take all the information and build a 6a Hunting Journal. Everyone that scouts their assigned areas will get access to all of the hunting reports that are filled out. You will need a 4x4, rhino or ATV, clip on flashlight, baseball cap, a GPS unit, binoculars and a digital camera to participate in the scouting exercise. You will need the standard camping gear including a tent, sleeping bag, warm clothes plus food and drinks for the weekend. On Wednesday night (8/12) at 7:00 pm, we will hold a teleconference call that you can dial into. On this call we will show you how to use a free satellite scouting website that will allow you to scout any hunt unit in Arizona from your home personal computer. We will show you how to find the spot where we will be camping this weekend as well how to identify great places to scout for this weekend's scouting trip. I will email the teleconference number to everyone that RSVPs yes to this event. Click here to RSVP yes right now so you don't forget. On Friday night we will hold a one hour topographic map diagramming class. Feel free to bring topo maps of the area you plan to hunt. We will teach you how to diagram a topographic map and make educated guesses on potential areas that might be holding animals as well as identify possible travel corridors. At the end of the meeting, we will assign each hunter 3-5 stock tanks to scout, fill out your hunting journal forms and take pictures of sign, scat, rubs, etc. If you want to learn how to hunt, this is the best possible way to learn the technical skills and strategies for locating animals. If you want to get competitive, we can all put $5 buck in the pot and have a digital hunting contest. Biggest buck or bull elk wins. On Saturday morning everyone will go out at daybreak to their assigned stock tanks and begin scouting and recording information. We will be scouting for elk, deer and turkey. On both Friday and Saturday night, we can sit around the campfire and tell stories about your favorite hunting places, hunt units and successful hunting trips you've had in the past. This is way my Granddad and Dad taught me to hunt. Listening to experienced hunters tell stories is a great way to learn. The more people we get to scout, the better the chances for uncovering where the largest herds are eating, drinking and bedding down.
